History
"The
McKenzie Bridge Christian church is the outgrowth of a Bible School conducted
by Mrs. Smith Taylor, Mrs. Jack Stobie, Mrs. Reta Waddell, Mr. And Mrs.
J.H. Campbell, Mrs. Harold Phillips and others. It was held in a schoolhouse
just across the bridge on the old highway. In 1940 Don Williams, a student
from Northwest Christian College came out and preached for the group. Later
he worked in the timber near here and preached on Sundays. They desired
to have a building and Smith Taylor gave the land on which this church is
built. The foundation and false floor were laid before Mr. Williams left.
He presented the needs of the field to the First Christian Church of Eugene.
In answer to this plea Francis L. Cook came out on the 8th of August, 1943.
The first building was completed and dedicated May 17, 1944.
The church was organized with twenty members, nine of whom are still active in this church, the others having moved from this locality. Lasting gratitude is due the faithful men and women who worked untiringly with their skills to complete the building we now have and which was dedicated in October of this year. There are well over a hundred members who are worshipping in a beautiful sanctuary and have educational facilities and social rooms.
It is the fervent prayer of your retiring pastor that the blessing of God may continue to abide with you and direct your every effort in the saving of souls and in the growth of your spiritual life."
